This is not your typical tourist experience. And neither is it a service like a hotel, where you just get food brought to you. No. Be ready to immerse yourself in local culture and discover the secrets of Kenyan cuisine in ways you won’t find in any hotel.
First, I won't buy the ingredients beforehand. Rather, we will go to the local grocery market together and pick them. Then, back at home, I won't keep you out of the kitchen as I cook. No. We will both roll up your sleeves and cook together multiple authentic Kenyan dishes. And I mean authentic dishes—nothing fancy, just honest, home-style food the way we eat it here.
I’ll explain the history and significance of each dish, and you’ll learn how these meals are enjoyed during celebrations, family gatherings, and daily life in Kenya.
Along the way, you’ll learn about everyday life, local customs, and the rhythms of Kenya living—all through food.
Get ready for an authentic Kenyan cooking adventure to discover the secrets of Kenyan cuisine that you won’t find in any hotel or guidebook. STEP 1: VISIT A LOCAL MARKET-The journey begins with a trip to a local market. You’ll learn how to choose the best ingredients. I'll take photos and videos to capture your experience as you have fun posing with your market finds. STEP 2: COOKING AT MY HOME-We'll then head home. Together, we’ll prepare traditional Kenyan dishes—from the famous ugali to matoke and sukuma. I’ll guide you on every step. I’ll help take photos to make sure you have a memory of your hands-on experience cooking a Kenyan meal. STEP 3: SHARE THE MEAL AND STORIES-Once your feast is ready, we’ll sit down together and enjoy the fruits of your labor! While savoring your home-cooked Kenyan meal, I’ll share fascinating stories about Kenyan culture, traditions, and diverse communities. WHY THIS IS DIFFERENT: This experience isn’t just a class; it’s an experience of Kenyan food culture that you can’t get at a hotel, and an opportunity to connect with local Kenyan culture in a way no guidebook can offer. You won’t just be following a recipe; you’ll be part of the process.
You can choose to be picked up from a list of locations, or alternatively, have the choice to make your own way to the meeting points
Please arrive at the pick up point 60 minutes before departure time.
I offer flexible pickup for a small fee from your hotel, the airport, or the SGR station. You can choose to travel by public, private pickup by me, or Uber/Taxi. Public transport is the Cheapest, but less convenient. My private pickup is Mid-range in cost and comfortable. And Uber is the Most expensive, but flexible. You can also mix options (e.g., private car one way, then Uber/public transport the other). If you prefer to come on your own, I’ll share a clear location. I'm just next to Thika Superhighway and next to a Mall, so it's easy to find.
