Temple of Karnak Your tour begins with one of the largest religious complexes in antiquity: the Temple of Karnak. Located on the east shore of Luxor, this sacred site was built and expanded for more than 2,000 years by generations of pharaohs. Dedicated mainly to the god Amun-Re, it covers more than 100 hectares. You will be amazed by the hypostyle room, with its 134 colossal columns, some reaching 23 meters in height. Each wall is covered with hieroglyphics, religious scenes and accounts of military victories. Your guide will explain the symbolism of alignments, obelisks and sacred basins, and immerse you in the daily life of the priests of the time. Karnak is not just a temple: it is an open-air history book, a unique testimony to the spiritual and political power of ancient Egypt.
Valley of Kings. Located on the west bank of the Nile, this necropolis houses the tombs of the New Kingdom pharaohs, including those of Ramses II, Thutmose III, and of course, Tutankhamun. Unlike the pyramids, these tombs were dug into the rock for greater discretion and safety. Inside, you will discover corridors decorated with colorful frescoes representing ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife, the gods, and the judgment of souls. The details are incredibly well preserved, with some pigments dating back more than 3,000 years! Your guide will explain the burial rituals, the symbolism of the painted scenes, and the treasures that these tombs contained. You will visit several tombs, each with its unique characteristics. It is a fascinating dive into the mystery, spirituality and ingenuity of the ancient Egyptians.
Then you will visit the Temple of Hashemput, one of the most singular monuments in all of Egypt. Built on a mountainside in Deir el-Bahari, this funeral temple honours the only woman Pharaoh to have reigned in Egypt for so long. Designed by the architect Senenmout, the temple is distinguished by its architecture in symmetrical terraces connected by ramps. You will admire its elegant colonnades, its reliefs recounting the exploits of the queen, and the scenes of her expedition to the land of Pount, a legendary trade mission. The peaceful atmosphere of the site, backed by the ochre cliff, offers a striking contrast with the grandeur of the architecture. Your guide will tell you how Hatshepsut took power, the controversies related to his reign, and why his image was erased after his death. An exciting visit in the story of an extraordinary woman.
