Abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel
The architecture of Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay make it the most popular tourist site in Normandy. Mont Saint Michel was classified as a historic monument in 1874 and the site has been on the UNESCO world heritage list since 1979.
Fortifications du Mont-Saint-Michel
The first mention of the ramparts is quite old. In the 12th century, the mountain was besieged. But the construction of the ramparts really began in the 13th century and it was probably Saint Louis who became master of the region who reinforced them. Its ramparts will be enlarged over the centuries and the current enclosure dates mainly from the 100 Years' War.
