Be prepared to be mesmerized by the enchanting Aurora Borealis! For many, seeing the Northern Lights is the reason to travel to our northern island in winter. They are fascinating, and it is a sight that will not be forgotten.
Nothing says “Icelandic Winter” like the idea of hunting for the Aurora Borealis. Created by solar storms originating from the sun, the Northern Lights need clear winter skies to be seen.
Step on board one of the new buses, equipped with Wi-Fi-connected computer tablets in each seat. On the tablets, you can watch, listen and read expertly written and recorded material about the Northern Lights and the stars in the Arctic skies. The audio is available in ten languages. You will also find a USB charger and your own star map on each seat.
Allow our expert operational team with decades of experience to analyze weather patterns. We will review the cloud and the Northern Lights forecast every day in detail. We will only venture out in search of them if we think we have a good chance of seeing them. This ensures a high success rate.

- Reykjavik TerminalPlease note that your tour will start from Reykjavik Terminal, Skógarhlíð 10, 105 Reykjavik. Please be there at least 15 minutes before your chosen departure time.
If you have booked a hotel pick-up with Smartbus, please be at your chosen pick-up location 30 minutes before the departure of the tour. Look for the green Smartbus which will be outside your accommodation within 30 minutes of the pick-up time

- Please note that there is no guarantee of seeing the Northern Lights. However, we will do our best to maximize the chances by picking the best locations
- In the event of an unsuccessful hunt of seeing the Northern Lights, we will offer you a chance to re-book as many times as needed until you are successful in doing so. You can continue to do this within a 2-year period of going on the first hunt
- Please note that to enjoy the in-bus audio guide, you will need to bring your own headphones; otherwise, headphones are available for purchase on the bus
- For your comfort, please dress according to the weather. Please dress in warm waterproof clothes. Weather changes can be sudden so be prepared for all weather conditions. A waterproof jacket and pants, headwear and gloves, and warm socks/waterproof shoes are recommended, especially since we will be outside at night
