Odawara Castle is a symbol of Odwara City. It was as an impregnable castle owned by the Hojo clan, the samurai family who governed Kanto region for about a century from the end of 15th century. Since then, the castle became a reserve for Hakone and Tokaido route and functioned as a cornerstone of defense in the region. The castle has renewed in 2016 after the completion of a seismic retrofit and renewal of the exhibition inside.
