Explore Koyasan, one of Japan's most sacred places, on a day trip from Osaka. Visit Okuno-in, Kongobuji Temple, and the Danjo Garan area with a guide.
Depart from Namba, Osaka's terminal station, and travel to Koyasan. Visit Okuno-in, where a famous monk from 1,000 years ago is said to still meditate. In this area, people who wish to sleep near the great monk have set up tombs and created a quiet sanctuary with moss-covered headstones and giant cedar trees.
Next, visit Kongobuji Temple, the central temple that administers the affairs of the sacred Koya Mountain. Enjoy the temple architecture where many monks once lived and the lavish interior where nobles were entertained when they visited Koyasan.
The last stop is the Danjo Garan area, the center of Koyasan's ascetic practices. Admire Koyasan's symbolic pagoda and many other attractions, this is truly the heart of Koyasan. Koyasan, where traditional Japanese Buddhist philosophy is still alive today.
The tour begins at Nankai Namba Station, a terminal station in Osaka. After meeting your guide, you will board an express train bound for Koyasan!
After getting off the express train, you will now board the cable car. The gondola gains altitude toward the sanctuary on top of the mountain.
Means of access to the sanctuary, the last one is a bus ride. The bus will take you through the forest to the World Heritage Religious City on the mountain.
