Blood Compact Monument

The Blood Compact Site, also known as the Sandugo Shrine, is a historical marker in Bohol, Philippines that marks the first treaty of friendship between Spanish conquistador, Miguel López de Legazpi and local chieftain, Datu Sikatuna, in 1565. The treaty was sealed through a ritual known as the "blood compact" where both parties mixed their blood in a cup symbolizing their commitment to the alliance. The site features a statue of Datu Sikatuna, a marker explaining the significance of the blood compact, and a replica of the cup used in the ritual. It provides a unique insight into the early interactions between Spanish colonizers and indigenous peoples and is a must-visit for those interested in Philippine history and culture.

In 1993, the Baclayon Church was declared a National Cultural Treasure by the Philippine government and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018.
