The legend of El Dorado says that the Muisca ritual consisted of the chief of the tribe immersing himself in the lake covered with gold dust accompanied by his followers who threw jewelry and other gold objects into the water. The Spanish conquistadors, as well as many other people from all over the world, would go to the lake to search for treasure in this golden lake, sacred to the Muisca people.
